The "media attention whore" signs off |

It think that's how Cindy Sheehan put it when the announcement was made. Knowing when to leave is one of the best talents there is. Mark these words, young people, or you might end up like me, Joe Briggs, the world's oldest and worst paid intern. Anyway, we wanted to mark the transition of Camp Casey that is taking place, as Cindy Sheehan takes her leave of being Bill Oh's worst woman in America. Being able to say "Good riddance to bad rubbish!" will always make you feel better. But Ms. Sheehan is absolutely right in this article. Camp Casey was one of the earliest signs that the Boy Emperor's lead casket was ultimately going to the bottom. It was lonely and hot and crappy in the ditch out on Prairie Chapel Road. Truthout did cover it better than anyone else. And people, who should have known better, parroted the bloody libels that Sonny Rove spun about her--I heard someone repeat one of them, and I saw others nod assent. Sometimes you just have to bite your tongue and bide your time. |

There were wonderful people who went to Crawford that first summer--Joan Baez and Steve Earle performed when the tent got set up. Ann Wright was there right from the start. The military families came along with the Code Pink women. The young vet who appears in the screen cap above is brilliant. It all pointed to how the future might be, if American progressive people can actually be bothered getting it together. It's a potential alliance that none of Poppy Bush's other children or grandchildren would ever be able to beat, no matter if they learn to ingest pork rinds without choking to death, or how much money the carbon industry puts in their pampered little hands. The Camp Caseyites will be remembered as the heroes, no matter how hard the George W. Bush Library Fellows try to convince us in the future that that lying, dumbass, chickenhawk Confederate drunk or his lying chicken-shit friends in the press were noble or courageous or right about anything. |
