Rebecca Solnit talks about her latest book, Storming the Gates of Paradise at Booksmith Bookstore in San Francisco on 7 August 2007. Many of her contributions to TomDispatch have been CPAL Selections. The whole video is more than an hour long. The bookstores blurb says: "Rebecca Solnit has made a vocation out of journeying into difficult territory and reporting back - as an environmentalist, public intellectual, and anti-globalization activist. Storming the Gates of Paradise, an anthology of her essays from the past ten years, comprise a unique guidebook to the American landscape after the millennium - not just the deserts, skies, gardens, and wilderness areas that have long made up Solnit's subject matter, but the social landscape of democracy and repression, of borders, ruins, and protests." Her article on Detroit in Harpers (July 2007) is well worth looking at. Her most recent column in the March/April 2008 issue of Orion magazine, "One Nation Under Elvis: An environmentalism for us all," is widely net-available. |
