We did our best to celebrate La Festa di San Giuseppe this year. Michael Occhipinti was nominated for the 2009 Juno Award for Contemporary Jazz Album of the Year for his superb album, The Sicilian Jazz Project, an album that is in heavy rotation on the phonograph here at Joe Briggs Place. A Juno Award would have been nice way to end the week. Sadly, the judges gave the award to another project. Our offices have been located in one of Toronto's older Sicilian neighbourhoods for the last thirty years. As more and more of the older people move to the burbs, we're left with just our memories of the world that "The Almond Sorters" video below evokes.
