The media is overflowing with stories about how Michael Ignatieff was such a disaster as a candidate and leader. Canadians were unable to get to know him. He couldn’t deliver a memorable line or stay on script. Maybe. The one thing he didn’t do was go into Quebec and speak in French about an “unnecessary election” in a way that made him sound like a urologist investigating the side effects of Viagra or an absent-minded Priapus scholar trying to find a session at the annual meetings of the Classical Association of Canada. Quebeckers have picked up on it.
The clip above is from a radio interview grabbed off the air. The unusual pronunciation was no isolated fluke. He pronounced it that way on opening day. Someone else put together a seemingly endless reel of Harperian “erections inutiles.”
