All Torontonians remember RoFo’s warning on being stripped of office: “Mark my words! This is going to be war! Folks! You have just attacked Kuwait!” — or words to that effect. DoFo told everyone that there would be a full RoFo slate of city candidates opposing His Lardship’s tormentors . . . threat! threat! menace! menace! Here in Ward 31 a few opponents are emerging. More than one of them claim Ford backing. They’re not a distinguished group. However, all of them would rank as card-carrying members of the Athenian agora in the age of Socrates compared with a declared candidate for council in neighbouring Ward 32. That would be James Sears, aka Dimitri [sic] the Lover, a man with what might be called a little bit of historical baggage (Gawker, Jezebel, Torontoist). I’m pretty sure that Sears is the one depicted as Christ in the campaign picture from his campaign website.

Let’s hope that RoFo and DoFo have the courage to support such a brash challenger as James Sears. He has so many obvious skills, like the ability to see the big picture and the dexterity to reshape dominant cultural myths and stories for his own purposes. It’s pretty obvious who the Sears figure in the picture is supposed to represent. However, I’m not quite sure who the fat Ford figure in the crown being disembowelled by Adam Vaughan is supposed to be. Maybe he’s a figure from the Gnostic Gospels. Most of us, literally, could not make this stuff up.
Sooner or later it’s going to be time for RoFo to identify exactly which members of the Ford Nation rabble running for council are members of his slate. I can’t wait to hear him deny this one. Denial, as Lyndon Johnson taught us, can be a political show-stopper.
