According to Royson James writing in the Star this week, all Toronto City Councillors have fumbled the mass transit file:
“For one, I don’t believe anything you guys say any more — for good reason. I say ‘you guys’ because you are all guilty of selling the public ideas and information and projects and proposals that are half-baked, politically motivated, poorly considered, lacking objective analysis and, upon reflection, downright wrong.”
Quite a definitive discovery he has made. I guess you cannot blame him for being swept away by Jennifer Keesmat’s passion for urbanism. Those of us cursed with actual memory can recall another time. This was just before our city, abetted by His Lardship, Rob Ford, Kathleen Wynne, Stephen Harper and ShmartTrack delusions rode madly off into mass transit fantasyland--a place where anything on rails above ground was a "fancy streetcar" and where Scarborough was finally, finally going to get the subway it deserved. Some of us were out in the morning telling our fellow citizens about a comprehensive mass transit plan called Transit City. All in all it was a pretty good plan that would be almost finished by now were it not for the meddlers listed above. That included Janet Davis and Mayor David Miller. Too bad nobody paid much attention. And shame on Mr. James. Don’t throw around terms like “objective analysis” if you can’t be bothered to know the actual history.
