Janet Davis Campaign, October – November 2006
Joe was out of the office a lot during October and November. He invested quite a bit of time on the Ward 31 campaign of Councillor Janet Davis. He concentrated as usual on his home poll 27, which again, as in 2003, returned the largest number of net votes for Davis.
Here's Janet's campaign statement:
On November 13, Janet Davis was convincingly re-elected as City Councillor for Ward 31 in the Toronto Municipal elections. Her principal opponent, Steve Minos, an Ajax hairdresser, managed to win only a paltry 31 percent of the vote. After being thrashed convincingly at the polls, he whined to the East York-Riverdale Mirror that he had been the victim of "a well-oiled, greased machine.... My campaign team said we were like Christians being led to the lions."
Davis vehemently denied Minos's accusations. Instead, she claimed that 8990 Ward 31 voters (65.9% of those that voted) rejected suggestions about the community being crime-ridden. "It was a positive campaign and I built on the strength of the community. It's a testament to what people think of living in our community. It's a great place to live." Her campaign staff also made clear that they could have used the robotic lions if Minos had posed a real threat, but decided against using them this time.
Here's Janet's thank you message to her supporters:
One of the things that we could have done better was to have some Italian language materials during the Ward 31 Campaign. Here's a sample of what they were doing in the Bravo campaign.
