When we turn our eyes south to the Great Republic and its health care "debate" these days, it's hard to know whether to laugh or to cry. The town halls and the nutbars that FreedomWorks has attracted to them are one thing. However, the media coverage of the events is amazingly poor. Almost everyone has noticed Barney Frank's exchange with the Obama=Hitler girl. John Ibbitson thought it was just what was needed. Bill O'Reilly thought it showed contempt for the people.
However, there was something about the girl that drew our attention when we first looked at the video clip. She was a certain type. O'Reilly conceded that she was a political activist, but still she seemed far too comely and far too close to her ideal body mass to be a Steve Forbesite. Surprise, surprise! David Neiwert at C&I points out that she's a Lyndon Laroucheite – something that becomes clearer when you listen to the whole exchange. The Obama as Hitler image actually comes from the Larouche website. Apparently, Frank was on to something with the question about her home planet. Listen on a little longer and you'll discover that the next unemployed questioner would actually prefer to default on his mortgage and lose his home rather than risk having the USA turn socialist, almost as if he were auditioning to be this year's Joe the Plumber. He should talk to someone who's actually lost their home. It's not really that much fun, unless, of course, he's not really what he claims to be either.
