The boss says its going to be a busy summer both at the case and outside the office. It’s been a few years since we’ve had as many reno projects on the fly at once. We’ve been working through a bunch of the Fine Homebuilding basic videos. Scott Grice was very helpful with techniques when we installed our hall window last fall. Here he teams up with a wily old framing veteran, Larry Haun, to do some basic layout. Interesting stuff. He reminds me of some of my old Simcoe County friends like Gordon Breedon, Wes Hindle, and Ari Steeneveld who showed me how to do all the basic construction work fifty years ago. Vern Connell was another local contractor we worked with from time to time. You could always count on him to provide you with his tools and let you finish the job. You learned a lot that way. He also introduced me to one of the finest craftsmen I had met to that date, George Baker from Cookstown, a master of the plastering arts. You could learn a lot from those guys if you kept your eyes and ears open.
