Joe Briggs Place is proud to post the video below. It promotes a one-day general strike to close west coast ports on 12 December 2011.
Occupy Oakland faced some of the earliest and most brutal of the police clearance actions that swept the continent over the last month, as mayors everywhere were overwhelmed with concern about getting their parks ready for winter. The Occupy Oakland folks retaliated with a surprisingly large and effective one-day General Strike on 2 November 2011. You can see Cenk Uygur's reports on the day's activities in shutting down local banks and on the march to the port in support of the ILWU. By the time this is over, the mayors of a few west cost cities may long for a movement devoted to defying local park by-laws and stocking yurt libraries with books. Let’s hope so.
