I met Doug Pritchard for the first time over thirty years ago when he knocked on my door to pull the vote during a federal election. I've known him through various other activities. He served as the chairperson of of the parent council at my daughter's high school. During that time he became active in and a senior member of Canadian Christian Peacemaker Teams; he and his wife Jane visited many of the most dangerous places on this planet in those years. He had guns pointed at him a number of times. The last time I talked with him, he told me he had retired from that kind of work and was taking things easier. Ironically, he probably came closer to actual gunfire while walking his dog a few blocks away from his Toronto home in February of this year.
