We just waved goodbye to Brenda. She drove off on her way to her last day at her workplace for the last thirty-five years, the West-End (Rotary)-Creche-Child-Development-Institute. There's no big party on the fourth floor with all the obligatory, cringe-inducing moments that she's suffered through when other colleagues bid farewell to the WERCCDI over the years. No pomp, no insincere words of farewell, no open bar, no gold watch. Not even a few warm words and a handshake from the ED. Management is handling the "situation" with kid gloves and hazmat suits, which is apparently just the kind of send off Brenda was hoping for.
That’s not going to stop us at Joe Briggs Place from rolling out our own perverse welcome mat. Here's a snippet of The Last Time sung by Mick Jagger and backed by Arcade Fire (Saturday Night Live 724 [Se 37 Ep 22]). You can find a better MP3 version (no video) here:
Welcome home, Brenda. There will be some adjusting. The past is always a good guide to the future. Here's a picture from long ago times.
Before you take over the grill, help with plating the food and getting it to the guests. That almost sounds like a party is in the cards. Stay tuned.
