A Joe Briggs Boycott: Sears Canada locks out its Ontario warehouse workers

The boss just came home from visiting his new dentist, a pretty good replacement for the legendary Berrel Garshowitz, DDS, whose office was in the Ryrie Building right across from the Eaton Centre. The boss came home speaking highly of the new dentist, who practices in the same neighbourhood. He asked me to look up some information about a Sears lockout information picket that he noticed in Dundas Square. There’s some video below. It looks like we won’t be shopping at Sears this Christmas, or anytime soon. Sears is one of the last of the major department stores and we’ve used a lot of their major appliances around here in our recent renovations. If you value our trade, Sears Canada, get back to the bargaining table! Settle with the approximately 500 members of USW Local 9537 who have been locked out at the Sears Canada warehouse in Vaughan, Ontario since April, 2010. Sears refuses to negotiate from their original position. You can find more video from the local’s struggle here, including this one of a corporate goon, who seems to have studied an advance copy of David McCully’s soon-to-be-published memoir, Winning Strategies with a Video Camera. More about that later.
