Mother's Day for Peace Video (May 14)

Yeah, I know all about the limits of maternal feminism. The boss was raised by one of them. Don't get me wrong here. He's very proud of his mother and her memory. But he does go on some about the blind spots of his mother's generation. Sometimes I have to nudge him out of it. "Yes, Joe, of course I loved my mom! That goes without saying. But you know when an icon is your own mother, you get to live with both the theory and the practice." My own great-great-uncle Phil used to go on and on and on about the betrayal of the promise of early feminism by those female imperialists who accepted the right to vote in return for helping to send even more Canadian boys off to the trenches in the Great War. The women in this video do seem to be have a better take on this. It's nicely done. It also suggests ways to snatch Mother's Day back from the Hallmark Card industrial complex. You can probably find one in your own community. Your own mother will probably thank you in the fullness of time. But, maybe you should get some flowers, too.
